John Giefraitis

John Giedraitis



Mr. Giedraitis is the State Urban Forestry Coordinator with the Texas Forest Service. He is responsible for assisting local local communities with trees throughout Texas. Previous to his work with the Texas Forest Service, he was City Forester for the City of Austin, Texas a position he held for thirteen years. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Forestry from the State University of New York, College of Environmental Science and Forestry and a Masters of Science in Urban Forestry from Michigan State University.

He has extensive experience with both the technical and practical aspects of arboriculture and urban forestry and has written many articles on community tree management. He has won numerous national, state and local awards for his innovative approaches to involving the public with their public trees including Urban Forester of the Year from the American Forestry Association.

John is married to Cynthia and lives with her and their sons Michael and Daniel in College Station, Texas.
